SoulMask is more than about wandering carelessly, slaying monsters, and building your own tribe. The game is also a survival sandbox and requires gathering resources to survive, thrive, and build various facilities. In this regard, Clay is an important building material used in over 40 different recipes. However, the game doesn’t really tell you where to get Clay in SoulMask.

As soon as you complete the tutorial sequence, the game will equip you with basic tools, including your handy pickaxe. Next, the next prompt will be to build your base and install various facilities to start thriving in the rainforest. Unfortunately, you are on your own from this point onwards as the game ceases to explain basic resources. If you are also feeling lost finding this basic early-game resource, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

This article explains where to get Clay, how to use it, and the best ways to increase your mining efficiency, let’s jump in:

Where to Get Clay in SoulMask?

Okay so you just completed the tutorial sequence and want to install a new structure in your base camp. You open up the building menu, select a blueprint, but get an error that you need Clay for this recipe. You look around the forest, even visit the nearest lake, as you heard some rumors, but still can’t get your hands on a decent amount of Clay. Well, you were looking in all the right places, you just didn’t know how to extract Clay, here’s how to find Clay in SoulMask:

How to Mine Clay in SoulMask?

In order to start mining Clay, you will need your good ol’ stone pickaxe. If you haven’t crafted it yet, just pick up a branch and combine it with 1x stone or flint to get your own pickaxe. Next, you can easily harvest as much Clay as you want if you look in the right place.

So, open up the game map by pressing “M” and zoom out until you can see the entire world map. Here, you must visit any waterbody, be it a lake, pond, or even a river. The size of the body doesn’t matter as long as you can locate it on the map as a blue block. See the map below for various Clay locations:

Clay Location

Once you reach near a waterbody (except the sea), simply start looking for large boulders. You are looking for a large, muddy boulder with either a shiny or rusty brown surface. You can easily find these Clay nodes as they are quite distinguishable from other rocky boulders in the area.

Next, go near any of these boulders and start hitting with your stone pickaxe. You will receive around 4 to 5 Clay for every strike, and each node will yield about 10x Clay before breaking out. You can repeat this process until you have completely drained all Clay nodes in the area or have enough resources for your recipes. Oh, and don’t worry about draining all nodes as they get refreshed after a few in-game hours. So, feel free to return to the same waterbody every day to harvest additional Clay whenever you need it.

How to Get More Clay?

Get more Clay

If you feel short of Clay even after draining all the nodes in all nearby waterbodies, well you are a serious builder we give you that. So, how to get more Clay without waiting for the next day? Your options are quite slim if you are in such a hurry as Clay can only be mined from natural Clay nodes.

You can still try looking around in various chests to get valuable loot items and resources, with a slim chance of finding Clay. Similarly, you can also try upgrading your skillsets to unlock better pickaxe technologies. Higher tier pickaxes allow you to harvest up to 20x Clay from a single node, thus increasing your mining efficiency. Lastly, you can always visit enemy camps and loot their resources to get Clay and other exquisite loot items.
