Once Human: How to Get Solar Drill? [August Update]
Once Human is all about finding new resources and using them to craft your own tools. So, you will constantly feel like running out of your base camp just to retrieve something as common as iron ore. Adding to the difficulty, it takes around 30 seconds to harvest just one mineral node, and you must work on at least a hundred of them per day. Fortunately, there are certain tools like the Solar Drill in Once Human to make your life easier.
Basically, a Solar Auto Drill is a handy tool that automatically harvests various minerals just by pointing at them. Moreover, this drill is self-recharging, so you don't need to worry about plugging it in after every trip. The only problem is that it takes a while to unlock this special item but trust me, it's well worth the effort. In this article, we will show you how to get Solar Drill in Once Human and the best way to use it, let's get started:

Blogs How to Get the Solar Auto Drill in Once Human?
First of all, you will find countless blogs claiming that you can unlock the Solar Drill directly from the Memetics Cradle; they are probably outdated. Maybe it was an option in the previous builds, but as per the latest Once Human August Patch, the only way to unlock this special item is through Memetics Specializations. That being said, there are a few prerequisites to it, so it isn't completely off the Memetics Menu. Here is a step-by-step guide to get the Solar Drill in no time:
Blogs Prerequisites
Starting off with the prerequisites for Solar Drill, there are two of them. Firstly, you must reach at least character level 30 before you start seeing this Memetics Specialization in the game. Personally, we got out at about character level 35, so you must be extremely lucky to find it before that time. Secondly, you must unlock the following schematics from the Infrastructure Memetics:
- Electric Drills
- Advanced Drills
If you are on character level 30+, you will have enough Energy Links to unlock both of them. However, you won't find the Solar Drill on your Workbench just yet, there is one last step preventing you from that task.
Blogs Solar Drill Memetics
Once you complete the prerequisites, it is time to level up until you can unlock a new Memetic Specialization. Next, open the Memetics Cradle and click on the golden number (X / 10) located in the upper right corner of the screen. From here, select an empty slot (like you did with other specializations) and look for the Solar Drill Memetics. If you don't see one, you are probably just out of luck, but we can remedy that, too. You can reset the available Memetic Specializations up to 5 times per season. So, simply use that ability to refresh the list until you get Solar Drill as one of the options.
Blogs Build the Workbench
Now that you have the Solar Drill Memetic Specialization, it is time to build the Workbench that offers this special gadget. Unfortunately, you can't craft this drill on your regular Workbench, so you must invest in either the Intermediate Supply Workbench or the Advanced Supply Workbench to proceed. The good news is that you can unlock both of these schematics directly from the Memetics Cradle Menu under the Facilities Tab. Next, you will need the following ingredients to craft one of these advanced structures:
Intermediate Supply Workbench Recipe:
- 1x Electronic Part
- 15x Rubber
- 20x Standard Part
- 20x Metal Scraps
- 20x Bronze Ingot
Advanced Supply Workbench Recipe:
- 1x Electronic Part
- 10x Rubber
- 15x Special Part
- 20x Steel Ingot
- 20x Engineering Plastic
- 20x Aluminum Ingot
Blogs Craft the Solar Auto Drill
Okay, so we have everything we need to craft our own Solar Auto Drill, or Solar Drill for short, in Once Human. The next step is to head to the Supply Workbench (advanced or intermediate) and interact with it by pressing F. Finally, find the Solar Drill from the menu and press F again to craft it.

Blogs How to Use the Solar Drill in Once Human?
As the name suggests, the Solar Drill is, in fact, a 'Solar' Gadget that automatically recharges on sunny days. So, you shouldn't worry about recharging it every so often unless your camp is in the rainforest. However, you should avoid working the drill too much, or else it will self-destruct, and you will have to do everything all over again. In other words, the Solar Drill will get destroyed once its battery is completely drained. You can check the current battery percentage while mining a rock with it, so the best way to use it is to let it rest for a few minutes after mining about 5 mineral nodes.
Apart from that, using the Solar Drill is pretty much the same as your chainsaw or even the Electric Drill. Simply go near any mineral node, take out your drill, and start mining to your heart's desire. Oh, and you don't have to repair the drill as it is self-healing while recharging under the sun. Just avoid working it too much, and you will be good to go for the rest of the game.
Blogs Conclusion
That's it! You are now the proud owner of your very own Solar Drill in Once Human. We understand that it is too much work for a single gadget, but it's very well worth every bit of your effort. Now, feel free to roam around the huge world map and break any rock that seems valuable, or else Chuck Norris will haunt your dreams. Hopefully, you got what you were looking for in this blog; feel free to check out the rest of the website (you won't regret it).
