Diablo 4 Team Editor

Even though there is an endgame sequence and a final boss in Diablo IV, there is no specific ending to the game content. For instance, after completing the main story quests, you can partake in numerous fun activities like Helltide, Nightmare Dungeons, The Pit, and World Boss Battles. In other words, your journey through the mysterious world of Sanctuary is sort of a never-ending, fun battle, no matter how much you grind the game.

Furthermore, you can enjoy most of these activities almost daily, and they never feel repetitive unless you become the Master of the World. In this regard, the Helltide is perhaps the best place to slay hordes of demons and unlock exquisite in-game resources and weapons. Lastly, you can earn tons of Exp and quickly level up by completing just a few Helltide events. The only problem is that the game doesn’t really explain this system, and numerous players feel lost despite playing through it since season 4. Therefore, in this article, we will explain everything you need to know about Diablo IV: Helltide and how to use your Aberrant Cinders, let’s start:

Blogs What is the Helltide Even in Diablo 4?

What is Helltide

Have you ever heard of an all-you-can-eat buffet? Well, Helltides are basically all-you-can-kill or loot buffets that take place all around the World of Sanctuary. These events are caused by the surge of demonic energy due to which the sky turns black, rivers run red, and the curtain between Hell and the realm thickens by the second. In other words, hordes of deadly demons and elite bosses spawn during these events, which you can slay to earn loads of XP, drop exquisite and rare loot items, and earn a ton of Aberrant Cinders.

Initially, Helltide used to be an endgame activity that you can only play after completing the main campaign and at World Tier 3 or 4. However, it all changed in Season 4 as anyone from World Tier 1 through 4 can participate in this event, but completing the main campaign is still a prerequisite. Currently, Helltide is a continuously repeating event that starts every hour and lasts for about 55 minutes followed by a 5-minute cooldown timer before everything resets and the Helltide Rises in another location.

Blogs How to Participate in Helltide Events?

How to Participate

Previously, Helltide participation was limited to extremely experienced players who had completed most of the other activities in the game. However, after Diablo IV Season 4, Helltide is now available to anyone who has completed the main story campaign at least once at any difficulty. Furthermore, returning veterans who choose the “Skip Campaign” option are also eligible to participate in this regional event.

In any case, once you start your journey, you will get the “The Helltide Rises” priority quest from Doomsayer Pira. Speak with him to get a quick runaround of the whole Helltide concept, how it works, and what your goals are before the timer runs out. Finally, open the Sanctuary World Map and look for the “Burning Sword” icon inside a red-hued region. Secondly, you will also get the “Helltide has Risen” popup when you hover over to this icon.

You will find at least one Helltide event at any time unless you search during the 5-minute cooldown. Once you find a region, get on your mount and head straight into battle, you will get ambushed by hordes of demons as soon as you enter the hued region, and they will keep coming until the timer expires, shifting the event to another location.

Blogs Diablo IV: How to Complete Helltide?

How to Complete

A common misconception about the Helltide event is that it has unique quests that, if not completed, will reset all your loot. However, it isn’t really the case, as far as the loot is concerned. Basically, Helltides are like endless battle events in which players can partake to grind XP, gain fresh weapons, and unlock special chests. The only objective of this fun event is to survive the waves without dying until the timer expires.

However, if you want to make the most out of your participation, we suggest that you slay as many enemies as you can to earn Aberrant Cinders. Next, use them to unlock special chests and summon Elites and Bosses. In the end, you will get more loot in under an hour than you can ever possibly acquire from at least 5-6 hours of grinding in the normal realm. However, you will lose half of your loot if you die during the Helltide Event, so be careful or else it will all go to waste. Lastly, you should always aim for the maximum level of enemies that you can tackle with your build to make the most out of your time.

Keep an eye on the Threat Meter located in the top right corner of the screen, as it appears whenever you enter a Helltide region. This meter gradually fills up as you survive the hordes of ambushers and slay demons. The Threat Meter is divided into 3 levels, a new wave of demons along with a few Elites. When this meter fills up, you will become Hell-Marked, summoning a huge wave of demons along with a Hellborne (an Elite enemy with ranged attacks).

Blogs Helltide Event Locations

Event Locations

Even though Helltide shifts to a new region after the 55 minutes + the 5-minute cooldown timer, you don’t always have to browse through the huge world map. Over the months, we have found a pattern in the Helltide regions, and it seems to only appear in a select few locations within each region. So, if you don’t wish to waste your time looking through the entire map after every hour, you can look in these key locations to quickly spot the latest Helltide event:

Helltides in Fractured Peaks:

  • Frigid Expanse
  • Kor Dragan
  • Malnok
  • Sarkova Pass

  • Deep Forest
  • Hope’s Light
  • Northshore

Blogs Diablo IV: How to Use Aberrant Cinders?

How to use Abberant

You can earn loads of Aberrant Cinders by slaying demons, defeating bosses, and completing sub-events within the Helltide realm. These Cinders will last only for the current Helltide and the counter will reset after the timer runs out. So, you must find a way to quickly stock up your Aberrant Cinders supply and use all of them before the timer runs out. Fortunately, you don’t need to look too far to spend this unique currency.

Tortured Gift

Basically, you earn most of your loot in Diablo 4’s Helltide via Tortured Gifts. These Gifts or chests are scattered around the active region and you will run into them while exploring the region. Once you find a Tortured Gift, you must use your Aberrant Cinders to unlock them and loot their contents. Currently, there are 7 types of Tortured Gifts, each yielding unique items and having different Cinders costs to open them. Here is a list of all Tortured Chests in Diablo 4 and their Aberrant Cinders cost:

  • Tortured Chest of Protection: 75x Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Jewelry (Rings): 75x Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Jewelry (Amulets): 125x Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Light Weaponry: 125x Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Heavy Weaponry: 150x Aberrant Cinders

Special Tortured Gifts:

  • Tortured Chest of Mysteries: 250x Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Chest of Living Steel: 275x Aberrant Cinders

Blogs Tortured Chest of Mysteries

Mystery Chests Locations

While all other Tortured Gifts and chests are self-explanatory about what to expect from them, the last two entries are of extreme importance. For this reason, these chests are marked on the map and you can fight your way through the hordes to find and unlock them. The first one is the Tortured Chest of Mystery; this special chest contains up to 5 Legendary items, including Sacred Legendries in World Tier 3 and Ancestral Legendries in World Tier 4.

This chest also sometimes drops Fiend Roses and Forgotten Souls, two important items for upgrading and enchanting weapons. Currently, you can loot up to 4x Mystery Chests if Helltide appears in any region except Kehjistan. When the Helltide rises in Kehjistan, players can loot up to 6x Mystery Chests within the time limit. Lastly, these Mystery Chests don’t appear on the map unless players are close to them, so the only way to find them is to explore the entire hued area.

Blogs Tortured Chest of Living Steel

Living Steel 1

Much like the Mystery Chests, Tortured Gift of Living Steel is another special Chest that drops Living Steel and other consumable items like Fiend Roses and Forgotten Souls. Players can use the Living Steel to summon Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint in the Hall of the Penitent Lair in central Dry Steppes. Whereas the remaining resources are crucial for weapon enchanting and upgrades.

Blogs Helltide Events

So far, we have discussed everything about how you must defeat hordes of enemies to survive the event while unlocking various Tortured Gifts to claim rewards. However, there is so much other stuff taking place within the same hued Helltide region. Here is a list of all the activities that you can find within a Hell-risen area by opening the world map:

Blogs Hellborne Elites

Hellborne

As mentioned earlier, you must fill up the Threat Meter to become Hell-Marked and summon a huge wave of enemies. This wave will drop numerous collectibles and legendary Weapons, and defeating the Hellborne Elites will drop Baneful Hearts. There is also a chance to drop these hearts before filling up the meter, but defeating the Hellborne troops seems like a guaranteed drop.

Blogs Accursed Rituals

Accursed Ritual 1

If you explore the map within the Helltide region, you will find a mysterious icon called the Accursed Rituals Altar. Players can visit this area and use 3x Baneful Hearts to activate the Accursed Ritual. Once you activate all three altars, you will summon the Blood Maiden Boss, an Elite enemy that drops many exquisite items and Legendary-Tier loot like Lord Zir Mats and endgame bossing consumables.

Accursed Ritual 2

Furthermore, the summoning player within a party will receive bonus loot by killing the Blood Maiden.

Blogs World Events

In some cases, world events like Legion Events and World Bosses may spawn within a Helltide region. When this happens, the monsters in these events will have increased difficulty levels and will drop the same Legendary gear items as Elites in other events. Furthermore, killing these hordes will also contribute to filling the Threat Meter, and you may end up facing a Hellborne within another event.

Blogs Conclusion

To sum it up, Helltide is an important repetitive event in Diablo IV that any player can attempt after finishing the main campaign at least once. Apart from that, there is no other prerequisite for partaking in the activities as long as you are up for the challenge ahead. However, players must attempt the Helltide Events at least once per day to maximize their loot drops and quickly rise through character levels. Hopefully, we have explained everything about Diablo IV: Helltide in this guide; feel free to check out the rest of the website for most such guides.
