Throne and Liberty: Top 5 Best Weapon Combinations — Build Guide

Blogs Team Editor

Throne and Liberty borrows many of its systems from conventional MMORPGs like Diablo and Baldur’s Gate. However, there are certain mechanics in the game that have helped it leave a lasting mark on the genre. For example, instead of choosing a starting class to build your character, players must choose two weapons from the arsenal to fulfill their desired roles. These weapons will last for the entire playthrough, supported by various upgrades and skill sets to polish the character build.

As a result, numerous weapon combinations are possible in Throne and Liberty, and players can’t stop experimenting until they find that sweet spot. The good news is that we have already tested out all possible weapon combos in TL to find the best ones for every playstyle. In this article, we will provide the top 5 best weapon combinations in Throne and Liberty to save you from the hassle, let’s get started:

Table Contents

Throne and Liberty Builds

Throne and Liberty follows a rather unconventional character build system compared to other MMORPGs. Instead of choosing a character class and basing their build on it, players are free to choose their primary and secondary weapons and base the build on them.

For instance, if you are looking for a Tank / Healer build, you can either go with the Sword/Shield + Staff/Wand combo or replace the Sword with a Greatsword. As a result, there are endless possibilities for build creation in this game, but experimenting will cost you precious gaming time.

How to Change Weapons in Throne and Liberty?

How to change

Throne and Liberty gives the players complete freedom to choose, build, customize, and completely change their playstyles and thus builds at any time. However, the weapon proficiency system is fully based on the weapon type rather than the character’s level and skills. In other words, you are free to change your primary and secondary weapons at any time, but doing so will result in losing your weapon proficiencies.

For example, if you start with a Dagger + Crossbow combo, you will unlock the proficiencies and skills for these two weapons only. As a result, if you switch to a Greatsword or even a staff, you must start at weapon level 1 and grind XP to increase its stats. Theoretically speaking, it is possible to change weapons in TL and even gain proficiencies in all weapon types in a single playthrough. However, we don’t recommend this type of playstyle as it will cost you a lot of extra gameplay hours, and you won’t be able to focus on completing other tasks.

Lastly, you can play with several builds (weapon combinations) in a single playthrough. The game allows you to switch weapons, save weapon combos, and even rename each build based on its functionality. So, it is even possible to carry all types of weapons in your inventory and quickly switch between the saved combos by pressing P or F11 mid-game.

Top 5 Best Weapon Combinations in Throne and Liberty

Weapons in Throne and Liberty are divided into 7 main categories, i.e., Greatsword, Sword, Crossbow, Longbow, Staff, Wand, and Daggers. All weapons in the game fall into at least one of these categories. So, once you choose your primary and secondary weapons, you are free to equip upgraded and rare weapons from your inventory and still enjoy all the same perks and proficiencies. However, the selected weapon must fall in the same category as the proficiency or else you will lose your skills. That being said, here is a list of the top 5 best weapon combinations (primary + secondary) in Throne and Liberty and their functions (you are free to choose your upgrades):

Sword/Shield + Dagger: Best Combo for PvP Melee Damage

Sword and Dagger

The Sword/Shield + Dagger is deemed the best weapon combination for close-range combat in both PvP and PvE settings. Basically, this build is extremely versatile as it gives you complete freedom to approach each fight with a sound strategy. The Daggers in the game are all about speed and mobility, but they deal comparatively lower damage per attack. However, the number of strikes you can lay in a single chain makes it a deadly weapon, even against the strongest foes.

On the other hand, your Sword/Shield combo is rather on the slow side but the damage per attack is significantly higher. So, you can initiate the attacks with your Dagger and then quickly switch to the Sword to cover your retreat while your used abilities get enough time to recharge. In the meantime, your shield will come in handy to block any retaliations before you restart your dagger attacks until the enemy is down.

Sword/Shield + Wand and Tome: Overall Best Performer

Sword and Wand

The Sword/Shield + Wand and Tome combo is the overall balanced build that every player should try at least once. You can use this combination to deal both melee and ranged damage and even heal yourself or your teammates while shredding the enemies. Furthermore, the damage output for both these classes adds up as you unlock more upgrades and skills for each.

For example, you can start each battle with a ranged attack from your Wand and keep attacking while the enemy closes the gap. Next, bring out your melee weapon and shield to engage in hand-to-hand combat. If you lose your HP too fast, you can again bring out the Wand, use explosions to create a safe distance, and heal yourself with the powerful spells. In short, this particular build works best in both PvP and PvE settings, and we strongly recommend this Templar build to everyone looking for a balanced playstyle.

Staff + Wand and Tome: Best All-Magic Build

Staff and Wand

The best way to experience the magic in Throne and Liberty is to go all-in with everything you have. Fortunately for us, unlike other RPGs, this game treats our magic fans with some long-overdue respect. Basically, you can use your Staff to lay some serious DPS damage while maintaining a safe distance. The staffs in this game are far more powerful, some even stronger than the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

Similarly, the Wands are also magic-based weapons, but their attack range is far inferior to the staffs. However, the attack speed of Wand and Tome is much faster than Staffs, making it the best choice for close combat casting. However, this type of build seems more practical if you play in a party (double as a healer) rather than solo. Overall, if you are joining the ranks as a magician or sorcerer, we recommend that you go with this weapon combination.

Greatsword + Longbow: Best Non-Magic Build

Greatsword

Next up, we have our Greatsword + Longbow Ranger build weapon combination in Throne and Liberty. Much like the all-magic build, the Ranger build offers both ranged and melee attacks without any traces of magic. By the looks of it, you should expect some serious damage output, as both these weapon classes are the masters of their respective categories.

For instance, the Longbow deals massive damage over long distances and even provides a bit of healing on the side. You can even replace it with a crossbow, but then you will lose the element of surprise attacks from a distance. Similarly, the Greatsword is the weapon of choice for Champions as it deals high damage per strike compared to regular swords. The only downside to this one-hit-kill build is that you must master the attack timing or else you will become a pushover in the server.

Dagger + Crossbow: Best for Mobility

Dagger and Crossbow

Are you an Assassin’s Creed fan like us? If yes, then you are definitely gonna love this Dagger + Crossbow weapon combination. This Scorpion build is all about speed, versatility, mobility, and strategy. Even though the damage output of both these weapons is low compared to other options, it gives you the freedom to move around the battlefield and harass your opponents.

Furthermore, you don’t need to master attack timings for this build, as the attacks are so fast even your greatest foes won’t be able to keep up with your speed. The only catch to the Assassin build is that you must quietly get close to the enemy, attack, and then quickly retreat to get charged for the next wave of attacks. In short, the Dagger + Crossbow combo is best for both PvP and PvE settings as long as you can keep up with the pace.
