Throne and Liberty: A Complete Fishing Guide — How to Fish?
We can't really put a genre tag on the new Throne and Liberty game. Just when we thought it was an MMORPG like Diablo IV, the game threw in exploration elements to make it feel like Baldur's Gate 3. So, it's an action-adventure-MMORPG, right? Well, not quite! The Devs have also included some survival mechanics similar to the ones we saw in Once Human, like crafting, mining, gathering, Fishing, and cooking.
So, we are now just waiting for Amazon Games to give us a proper genre name for this particular game. In any case, if you have been puzzled by learning about all these new mechanics at once, you might have considered Fishing for a change of pace. Fortunately, it isn't that hard to go Fishing in Throne and Liberty, especially after reading this how to fish guide, let's get started:

Blogs Throne and Liberty: Fishing Guide
Fishing is a common sport in most modern RPGs, and Throne and Liberty is no different. You can go fishing near the Coastline to capture different kinds of fish and use them to cook yummy meals. Moreover, your fishing line will also sometimes bring a Fishing Sack filled with random rare items and Sollants (gold). However, before you can pack your fishing basket, you must learn how to get started with Fishing in Throne and Liberty:
Blogs How to Start Fishing in Throne and Liberty?
The first thing you need to start fishing in Throne and Liberty is obviously a Fishing Rod and a basket full of fishing bait. Once you have these two items, you can simply equip the gear and head to any nearby coastline to start Fishing. Next, throwing your line will start a mini-game in which you must tire the fish before it depletes your stamina bar to successfully catch the fish.
Blogs How to Get a Fishing Rod?
You can't start fishing right away in Throne and Liberty like we did in Once Human. First, you must progress the game until you unlock the daily Contract system in the game. Next, you will have the option to either purchase the rod or get it for free by completing a mid-game main story quest. Here are all the ways you can get a Bamboo Fishing Rod in Throne and Liberty:
- Complete daily and weekly contracts to earn Contract Coins. Next, head to the Contract Coin Merchant to purchase your first Bamboo Fishing Rod for 300x Contract Coins.
- Alternatively, you can also progress through the main story until you reach Chapter 3. Next, speak with Adventure Pro Percy in Kastleton and complete your first Amitoi Expedition to get a free Bamboo Fishing Rod.
Blogs How to Get Fishing Bait?
Now that you have your first Fishing Rod in Throne and Liberty, the next step is to get some high-quality Fishing Bait, and then you are good to go. Unfortunately, the standard Paste Bait doesn't come with any buffs or advantages, but you can still use it to catch most of the common fish types as long as you have the experience. Here is a list of all types of Fish Bait in Throne and Liberty and how to get them:
Paste Bait:
A standard Fish Bait that attracts both freshwater and Seawater Fish up to medium size. However, this Bait doesn't come with any buffs, so your only friend is your experience with the Fishing Rod.
How to Get?
You can purchase 50x Paste Bait from the Coin Merchant for 20 Contract Coins once per day. Furthermore, you can also purchase an additional 50x Paste Bait from the in-game shop for 15x Ornate Coins, but we don't recommend this method as the coins are far too valuable.
Shrimp Bait:
A basic Fish Bait that attracts small to medium-sized fish in both sea and fresh water. This particular Bait offers a whopping 50% chance to lure small fish.
How to Get?
You can drop the Shrimp Bait by killing most creatures lurking around the Coastline and other water bodies. Here is a list of all creatures that can drop this Bait:
- Chestacean
- Iron Chestacean
- Hermit Lobster
- Sea Crab
- Hermit Crab
- Large Stone Crab
Worm Bait:
A fresh, smelly, and tasty Lugworm that attracts almost all kinds of fish without any discrimination. However, this particular Bait is especially appealing to all the medium-sized fish as it offers up to a 50% chance of luring medium fish.
How to Get?
You can't buy the Worm Bait, nor can you drop it by killing mysterious creatures. Instead, you must focus on gathering and cutting down the Star Trees for a chance to drop the Worm Bait.
Fish Fillet Bait:
A high-quality bait made from freshwater small fish, and even the big dudes love some good quality fillet o fish. This amazing Bait will give you a whopping 50% chance to lure all the large-sized fish in both seawater and freshwater bodies.
How to Get?
You can't buy, drop, or craft the Fish Fillet Bait. Instead, the only way to get it is from the Large Fishing Sacks, and even then, it is based on RNG.
Blogs Throne and Liberty: Fishing Basics
Now that you have your Fishing Rod and some fine Fishing Bait, all that's left to do is pack your gear and head to the nearest waterbody. If you plan to catch saltwater fish, then head to the Coastline, or else you can even try your luck in the rivers for some freshwater fish. However, before we get to the Fishing mini-game, open your character screen and equip a Fishing Rod along with your preferred Fishing Bait.
Once both these slots are filled, head to the waters and cast your fishing reel. Next, you must wait for a few seconds before something catches your hook, and the game begins. You will see three distinct meters on the screen as soon as you hook a fish:
- Orange Health Bar: This bar shows the fish's Stamina or HP and you must work to tire the fish before you can reel it in. A good strategy is to spam the fishing button (Q, or L1 / LB) to get a quick 25% head start. Next, you must pull the rod in the opposite direction (Press A or D) to the fish's movement to further reduce this orange bar.
- Green Stamina Bar: The Green Stamina Bar shows the player's remaining Stamina as you don't get unlimited energy for each catch. The goal is to try and fish the Orange Bar before the Green Bar runs out. Otherwise, you will risk losing your catch along with any progress you have made so far. As you gain experience and use better tools, you will get a second chance at catching the same fish after waiting for around 0.5 seconds.
- The Light Above the Fish: The final indicator shows the fish's current movement direction and an imaginary ideal line to pull it. You can use this indicator to maintain a steady pull in the opposite direction by aligning the fish reel with the center, i.e., if it moves left, then pull right and vice versa. If this indicator turns red, then your reel is about to break and you risk losing the fish, so try and keep things balanced throughout the mini-game.
Once you master these three indicators, catching even the large and challenging fish will become a daily sport. However, it takes a while to get a grip on this mechanism, so patience is the key to success. In any case, you will automatically reel in the fish and get ready to cook it after finishing the Orange Bar before you lose your Stamina.
