The Veilguard is the new topic in almost every gaming community these days, and it really deserves the attention. From realistic mechanics to captivating graphics, the new Dragon Age encompasses everything in a well-finished package. That being said, the combat mechanics in the game aren’t as simple as they might seem during the first few hours. As you unlock more traits, weapons, and skills, you are forced to quickly master everything before going for the first major boss.

In this regard, Takedown or Execution is an extremely important concept that can change the tide of any battle within seconds. The only problem is that the game’s tutorial section isn’t detailed enough to include these directions. Therefore, in this article, we will guide you about how to perform takedowns in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and how to quickly Stagger any enemy, let’s start:

Dragon Age Veil Guard: Takedowns

If you love watching gameplay videos before playing the game yourself, you might have seen your favorite YouTubers perform these cool executions. However, there are no controls to copy those cool actions when you play the game, so, what are you missing? Well, what you saw are takedowns or executions that you will unlock after the tutorial section. These takedowns quickly deplete any enemy’s health bar with a single blow.

However, before you start slamming your opponents with these takedowns, you must first fill up the Stagger bar. There are a number of ways to Stagger your enemies before finally executing them with your special attacks. While you won’t have enough combat time to takedown the lesser enemies, it is a sure way to win against bosses and elites.

Now that you know the basics, it is time to start discussing all the best ways to takedown your enemies. First, you must fill up the purple Stagger bar, located on top of the HP bar over almost every enemy. This Stagger bar fills up with light attacks, heavy attacks, spells, dodges, kicks, and everything else on the offensive side. Once you fill up that bar, simply go near the Staggered enemy and press either R3 or RS on your controller (E on Keyboard) to perform a takedown.

However, the Stagger status effect is temporary and will return to normal conditions if the enemy has not taken damage for a while. So, make sure to keep your foes busy while you prepare to unleash your final move of the battle. Secondly, the takedown doesn’t always result in a kill as the enemy may have more HP than your takedown stats. Therefore, it is important to save the takedown for special occasions or use them multiple times against bosses and enemies with higher HP.

Lastly, you don’t have to use the takedown as soon as the enemy is Staggered. So, you should switch to weapons or spells that deal extra damage or counter elemental resistance of your foes or even trigger weapon buffs before performing the takedown.

Dragon Age Veil Guard: How to Stagger

We have been talking about Staggering your enemies but what exactly does that mean? Well, whenever you hit an enemy, you will deplete his HP bar depending on the nature of attack and also fill up the purple bar above their heads. This purple bar shows the current Stagger and how much more you need to hit before attempting a takedown.

The only problem is that most enemies will completely lose their HP before you fill up that Stagger bar, thus preventing your cool execution move. Fortunately, there are some tricks that will help you quickly fill up the Stagger bar and kill any enemy in style, here’s how to quickly fill the Stagger bar in Dragon Age:

  • Bosses don’t get Staggered with light attacks, so switch to Charged Attacks and abilities in such fights.
  • Prefer Charged Attacks while playing as either a Warrior or a Rogue.
  • Elemental Orbs deal more Stagger than light casts, so use them if you are playing as a Mage.
  • Abilities like Kick Driving and Titan Stomp can quickly Stagger any enemy, so use them whenever it is possible.
  • Switch to weapons and armors that boost Stagger against all enemies e.g., Elven Rockbreaker.
  • Before executing your takedown move, make sure to switch to a weapon that eliminates elemental resistance from your enemies.
  • Unlock and use skills that boost the Stagger effect e.g., Killer Instinct.

Note: Takedowns aren’t always possible against lesser enemies as they will lose their HP faster than you fill up the Stagger bar. However, you can use this powerful attack multiple times against bosses and elites, and when playing on a higher difficulty.
